The New York Yankees are the leading candidate to sign free agent right-hander Marcus Stroman, MLB Network reported Wednesday.

The two-time All-Star opted out of the final season on his contract with the Chicago Cubs in November, walking away from $21 million to chase a long-term deal.

Stroman, 32, and the Yankees have had “productive discussions” recently, per the report. Stroman also told USA Today he was “seriously interested” in joining New York.

Stroman was a National League All-Star in 2023 with Chicago, finishing 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA across 27 games (25 starts). He struck out 119 batters and walked 52 in 136 2/3 innings of work.

He owns a 77-76 record and a 3.65 ERA in 231 games (223 start) with the Toronto Blue Jays (2014-19), New York Mets (2019, 2021) and Cubs (2022-23).
