NCAAF: Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh: Talk future next week

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is willing to discuss what’s next, but not before the No. 1-ranked Wolverines play for the national championship on Monday night.

“I’ll gladly talk about the future next week,” Harbaugh said Saturday at the College Football Playoff media day in Houston. “The future? I hope to have one, how about that.”

Harbaugh deflected questions about potential NCAA sanctions including vacated wins earlier in the week, saying he doesn’t live in “Rumorville,” as reports circulate about mutual NFL head-coaching interest.

Michigan reportedly offered Harbaugh a massive contract extension worth more than $50 million last month. But the deal reportedly would prevent Harbaugh from interviewing for vacant NFL coaching jobs. He coached the San Francisco 49ers (2011-2014) and was tied to recent openings with the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings in coaching cycles the past two offseasons.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy said Harbaugh is dialed in this week and delivered an intense message to the team in Houston.

“Basically we’re a pack of wolves ready to eat our last meal,” McCarthy said.

The Wolverines posted a 27-20 win in overtime over Alabama to advance to Monday’s championship game. It’s their first in the BCS or College Football Playoff eras.

“I haven’t even taken in the win really last week. I’m so laser-focused on finishing the job,” Michigan running back Blake Corum said. “I’m so locked in right now. We’ll be ready.

“We’re not going to stop until we finish the job.”
