Reigning player of the year Caitlin Clark posted her 14th career triple-double and the fourth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes overcame Rutgers’ first home sellout in 17 years to throttle the Scarlet Knights 103-69 at New Brunswick, N.J., on Friday night.
Clark scored 29 points and added 10 assists and 10 rebounds for her third triple-double of the season as Iowa improved to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. It was Rutgers’ first sellout since hosting UConn in 2006.
Clark was not alone in dominating the Scarlet Knights (6-11, 0-4). Kate Martin finished with 17 points and Gabbie Marshall scored 12 as five Hawkeyes scored in double figures.
Rutgers also had five players in double figures, as well. Kassondra Brown came off the bench to lead a trio of Scarlet Knights with 12 points while adding a game-high 11 rebounds.
No. 2 UCLA 75, Oregon 49
Angela Dugalic scored a career-high 17 points against her former team as the Bruins had little trouble with the Ducks in a Pac-12 game in Los Angeles.
UCLA (13-0, 2-0) got double-doubles from Lauren Betts (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Kiki Rice (11 points, 10 assists) as the Bruins held the Ducks (9-6, 0-2) to four points in the first quarter.
Oregon, where Dugalic played the 2020-21 season, got 14 points from Phillipina Kyei, the only Duck to score in double digits.
No. 5 Colorado 75, Arizona 74
Jaylynn Sherrod’s three-point play with less than two minutes to play gave the Buffaloes the lead for good as Colorado edged the host Wildcats in Tucson, Ariz.
Sherrod, who finished with a team-high 18 points, scored with 1:50 left to give the Buffaloes (12-1, 2-0 Pac-12) a 73-72 lead and her free throw made it a two-point game.
She made another free throw with 1:22 to go before Esmery Martinez’s layup got the Wildcats (9-5, 1-1) within one. But Breya Cunningham missed the would-be game winner at the buzzer.
No. 8 Stanford 74, Washington State 65
Down a point at halftime, the host Cardinal used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to take control of the game and hold off the Cougars in Stanford, Calif.
Down 44-42 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the third, Stanford (13-1, 2-0) got a pair of free throws from Cameron Brink to tie the game and ignite the run. Brink led the Cardinal with 20 points.
Charlisse Leger-Walker scored a game-high 22 to lead Washington State (11-4, 0-2).
No. 9 USC 56, Oregon State 54
Star freshman JuJu Watkins scored 28 points and the host Trojans came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to top the Beavers in Los Angeles.
Watkins scored the first basket of the final period then went scoreless the rest of the way. But McKenzie Forbes hit a 3-pointer and Kayla Padilla added two more to help carry USC (11-1, 1-1 Pac-12).
Oregon State (12-1, 1-1) was led by Talia von Oelhoffen’s 18 points.
No. 15 Utah 58, Arizona State 41
The Utes held the Sun Devils to fewer than 10 points in three of four quarters and cruised to a victory in a matchup of Pac-12 teams in Tempe, Ariz.
Kennady McQueen led Utah (11-3, 1-1) with 12 points and Jenna Johnson added 10. The Utes dominated on the glass (52-37 rebounding edge) and held the Sun Devils (8-6, 0-2) to only 27-percent shooting.
Jayln Brown scored a game-high 22 points to account for more than half of Arizona State’s scoring. Reserve guard Adison Novosel (nine points) was the only other Sun Devil with more than four points.
No. 20 Ohio State 90, Northwestern 60
The Buckeyes outscored the Wildcats in every quarter and rolled to a win in Evanston, Ill.
All five Ohio State starters scored in double digits, led by Jacy Sheldon’s 18 and 15 from Celeste Taylor. The Buckeyes (11-3, 2-1 Big Ten) made 10 more field goals than Northwestern (33-22).
Caileigh Walsh scored 14 points for the Wildcats (6-9, 1-3).
