Andrei Svechnikov scored twice, Pyotr Kochetkov made 28 saves and the Carolina Hurricanes cruised to a 6-1 rout of the host New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes won their season-best fourth straight game and improved to 7-1-3 in their past 11 games by taking the lead early with their power play.
Carolina scored multiple power-play goals for the fourth time in five games and 10th overall this season.

Jack Drury — the nephew of New York president and general manager Chris Drury — scored the first power-play goal early in the first and Svechnikov netted the other tally with the man advantage late in the first before scoring Carolina’s fifth goal. Svechnikov scored twice after getting a hat trick against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

Jordan Martinook, Jalen Chatfield and Michael Bunting also scored for the Hurricanes, who tied a season best with six goals. Former Ranger Brady Skjei added three assists.

Chris Kreider scored for the Rangers, who dropped to 7-4-0 in their past 11 games and absorbed their most lopsided loss under first-year coach Peter Laviolette.

New York goalie Igor Shesterkin tied a career worst by allowing six goals on 27 shots.

Kochetkov made 12 saves in the opening period and then stopped breakaway attempts by Vincent Trocheck and K’Andre Miller early in the second. With about five minutes left in the second, he made a glove save on a rising wrist shot by Mika Zibanejad.

Drury opened the scoring by getting his first career power-play goal 1:49 into the contest when he got a pass from Stefan Noesen in the right circle and sent a one-timer past Shesterkin. Svechnikov scored on a similar play in the final minute of the first when Sebastian Aho’s pass went past Kreider to the left circle.

After Kreider tipped in Jacob Trouba’s shot from the right point 4:30 into the second, Carolina made it 3-1 a little over two minutes later when Martinook sent Jordan Staal’s centering pass from the right corner by Shesterkin for his second goal this season.

Chatfield made it 4-1 with a blast from the left circle after a drop pass from Drury 93 seconds into the third moments after Carolina killed a New York power play. Svechnikov finished it by slipping past New York defenseman Ryan Lindgren to the crease and tucking the puck by Shesterkin 2:56 into the third before Bunting scored on a backhander with 4:11 left.
