Japan’s Naomi Osaka, playing in her first match since the birth of her daughter in July, delivered a 6-3, 7-6 (9) victory over Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch on Monday at the Brisbane International in Australia.
It was the former World No. 1’s first match in 15 months. Osaka hit 36 winners against 29 unforced errors in the first-round win.
In other action, Australian Daria Saville cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska. The match between Lucia Bronzetti was suspended with the Italian leading Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 2-3.

Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko led a host of seeded players into the next round, gutting out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Sachia Vickery in Auckland, New Zealand.
The third-seeded Tsurenko won 54.5 percent of her second serves, while Vickery struggled to a 35.7 percent mark on her second.
Fourth-seeded Emma Navarro rallied to defeat Czech Linda Fruhvirtova 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Fifth-seeded Czech Marie Bouzkova beat Poland’s Magdalena Frech 6-0, 3-6, 6-4. No. 6 seed Xinyu Wang of China outlasted Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-4, 7-5.
