The New York Knicks brought back forward/center Taj Gibson on a one-year deal as insurance for the sidelined Mitchell Robinson, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Gibson, 38, played for the Knicks from 2019-22 and played in 49 games for the Washington Wizards last season. He was waived by the Wizards in October.

Gibson has also played for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau in Chicago and Minnesota.

Gibson averages 8.7 points and 5.9 rebounds in 945 career games (449 starts) with five teams. He was selected No. 26 overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2009.

The Knicks waived Dylan Windler in a corresponding move.

Robinson is to undergo surgery this week on his left ankle and he will be re-evaluated in 8-10 weeks, the team said Monday.
