Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored 13 seconds into overtime on Saturday night for the New York Islanders, who ended the Los Angeles Kings’ record season-opening road winning streak with a 3-2 win in Elmont, N.Y.
The Isles overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period.
Anders Lee scored twice in the third before Pageau scored on a backhanded breakaway for the Islanders, who have recorded a point in 11 of their past 12 games (7-1-3). Goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves.
Adrian Kempe and Vladislav Gavrikov scored in the second period for the Kings, who had their 11-game road winning streak snapped. Los Angeles was one win shy of tying the all-time mark set by the Detroit Red Wings during the 2005-06 season and matched by the Minnesota Wild in 2014-15.
Kevin Fiala had the primary assist on both goals for Los Angeles, which set the NHL record for most consecutive road wins to start a season in Thursday night’s win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Lightning 4, Kraken 3 (OT)
Nikita Kucherov, the NHL’s scoring leader, had two goals — including the game-winner at 3:12 of overtime — and an assist as Tampa Bay defeated host Seattle.
Anthony Cirelli added a goal and an assist and Nicholas Paul also scored for the Lightning, who evened their record at 1-1-0 to start their five-game trip. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves.
Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jamie Oleksiak and Jared McCann scored for Seattle, which lost its seventh straight game (0-5-2). Philipp Grubauer stopped 21 of 23 shots before leaving after two periods with an injury. Joey Daccord stopped five of seven shots the rest of the way.
Canadiens 3, Sabres 2 (SO)
Cayden Primeau made a career-high 46 saves and stopped two of four attempts in the shootout to help Montreal defeat host Buffalo.
Jayden Struble scored his first NHL goal and Nick Suzuki also scored for the Canadiens, who had lost three of four games. Juraj Slafkovsky tallied the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout after teammates Cole Caufield and Jesse Ylonen scored earlier. Victor Olofsson and Owen Power tallied in the shootout for Buffalo, but Primeau made the save on JJ Peterka, setting the stage for Slafkovsky.
Jeff Skinner and Kyle Okposo scored in regulation, and Devon Levi made 29 saves for the Sabres, who have dropped five of six games.
Bruins 5, Coyotes 3
David Pastrnak’s two goals and an assist helped Boston hold off visiting Arizona.
Charlie Coyle, Kevin Shattenkirk and Danton Heinen also scored for Boston, which has won four of its past five games and 10 straight home meetings with Arizona in regulation. Linus Ullmark made 31 saves in his second consecutive start.
Clayton Keller, Michael Carcone and Lawson Crouse scored for the Coyotes, who had a 34-29 advantage in shots.
Devils 4, Flames 2
Second-period goals by Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier, his first of two in the game, erased a deficit and sparked visiting New Jersey to a victory over Calgary.
Alexander Holtz also scored for the Devils, who have won three straight games and six of their past seven. Goaltender Vitek Vanecek made 23 saves, one dozen of them in the opening period to keep his team within striking distance.
Yegor Sharangovich, a former Devil, and Nazem Kadri replied for the Flames, who have lost three of four games to end a six-game homestand. Goaltender Dustin Wolf stopped 26 shots.
Golden Knights 6, Stars 1
Mark Stone was one of four Vegas players with a goal and an assist, and one of six to score, as the visiting Golden Knights won to sweep the three-game season series from Dallas.
Zach Whitecloud, Paul Cotter and Nicolas Roy also recorded one goal and one assist apiece, while Logan Thompson stopped 19 shots for the Golden Knights, who recorded their NHL-leading 41st point. Chandler Stephenson and Pavel Dorofeyev also scored for Vegas, which has totaled 25 goals in the past six contests.
Meanwhile, Evgenii Dadonov had a goal and Jake Oettinger managed 21 saves for Dallas, which fell for the third time in four games while playing without star Roope Hintz, who was a late scratch due to illness.
Senators 5, Red Wings 1
Claude Giroux and Vladimir Tarasenko each had a goal and an assist to lead Ottawa to a win over host Detroit.
Joonas Korpisalo made 30 saves for Ottawa, which has won three of its past four games. The Senators opened the scoring 1:57 into the game on a power-play goal by Giroux. Dominik Kubalik, Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson also scored for Ottawa.
Detroit lost its second straight game. The Red Wings got a power-play goal that was also the first goal in a Red Wings uniform for the newly signed Patrick Kane.
Maple Leafs 4, Predators 0
Ilya Samsonov made 18 saves to earn his first shutout of the season and host Toronto defeated Nashville.
Auston Matthews scored two goals and David Kampf and Noah Gregor also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of their past five games. Samsonov, who had not played in the previous five games, earned the 11th shutout of his career.
Kevin Lankinen stopped 33 shots for the Predators, who had won their previous three games and nine of their past 11. Lankinen stopped two breakaways in the first period.
Capitals 4, Rangers 0
Charlie Lindgren made 31 saves and nine Washington players recorded points in the Capitals’ shutout win over visiting New York.
The Capitals ended a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) with a dominant performance against the top team in the Metropolitan Division. Sonny Milano set the tone by scoring just 43 seconds after the opening whistle. Anthony Mantha, Tom Wilson and Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored Washington’s other goals.
It was the first time Lindgren and his brother, Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren, faced each other in an NHL game. Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad both hit the goalpost for the Rangers’ closest scoring chances as New York was shut out for the first time this season.
Blackhawks 3, Blues 1
Anthony Beauvillier netted his first goal with Chicago as the Blackhawks won consecutive games for the first time this season with a victory over visiting St. Louis.
In his fourth game since being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks, Beauvillier caught a piece of the opening goal for his first Blackhawks marker and point. Jason Dickinson and Alex Vlasic also scored for Chicago. Petr Mrazek saved 38 shots as the Blackhawks won for the first time at home against the Blues since Nov. 26, 2021.
St. Louis’ Oskar Sundqvist scored a late short-handed goal and goalie Jordan Binnington made 21 saves as the visitors lost their third straight game and are 2-5-0 in their past seven.
Flyers 5, Avalanche 2
Travis Konecny scored twice, leading Philadelphia to a win over Colorado in Denver.
Travis Sanheim and Owen Tippett each contributed a goal and an assist, and Joel Farabee added the other goal for the Flyers, who have won four straight games. Carter Hart made a season-high 36 saves for Philadelphia, which won in Colorado for the first time since March 28, 2018.
Nathan MacKinnon and Josh Manson responded for Colorado, while Ivan Prosvetov stopped 29 shots. The Avalanche have lost five of their past six games.
Canucks 4, Hurricanes 3
Elias Pettersson scored the game-winning goal and also had two assists and Thatcher Demko made 21 saves to pick up his 13th win of the season as host Vancouver handed Carolina its fourth straight loss.
It was the fifth three-point game of the season and 29th of his career for Pettersson. Sam Lafferty and Ilya Mikheyev each had a goal and an assist and J.T. Miller hit the 40-point mark with a goal for Vancouver, which won back-to-back games for the first time since Nov. 12-15.
Jordan Martinook, Brady Skjei and Stefan Noesen scored goals and Antti Raanta finished with 20 saves for Carolina.
