Roope Hintz scored twice in the third period as the Dallas Stars snapped a two-game skid with a 5-4 shootout victory on the road against the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

Tyler Seguin and Mason Marchment also scored for the Stars in a back-and-forth contest, which called on Dallas to fight from behind three times, never holding the lead until the final score.

Dallas netminder Scott Wedgewood made three saves in the shootout, while Jason Robertson found the back of the net, sliding the puck past Washington goaltender Charlie Lindgren to secure the victory for the Stars.

With the Stars trailing 3-1 midway through the second period, Marchment’s goal at 14:19 buoyed Dallas to the eventual comeback. The 28-year-old scored his fifth goal in as many games, firing a slap shot past Lindgren.

At the same time, Matt Duchene picked up an assist for his 764th NHL point in his 1,000th career game.

Hintz scored his first of the game during an early third-period power play to tie the score at 3-3, redirecting a shot in front of the net after Roberston floated a puck in from the blue line.

Dylan Strome, who gave the Capitals the lead early in the second period, scored the 100th goal of his career. He put Washington up 4-3 at the 9:08 mark of the third period, firing a wrist shot over Wedgewood’s left pad after a pass from Anthony Mantha.

Hintz tied the score at 13:47 of the third period, scoring his 10th of the season.

Washington opened the scoring on its second shot of the game with a goal from Aliaksei Protas. Evgeny Kuznetsov, who was a healthy scratch in the Caps’ 6-0 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday, scored in the second period to give Washington a 3-1 lead.
