New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr was a limited practice participant on Wednesday, just three days after sustaining his second concussion of the season.

Carr remains in concussion protocol and would have to be cleared by an independent neurologist before he could be available for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Carr also is listed with injuries to his ribs and right shoulder on the team’s injury report.

Saints coach Dennis Allen said that Carr will be re-evaluated throughout the week.

Carr’s concussion in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions came three weeks after he sustained one against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 12.

Carr didn’t miss a game following the first one, partly because New Orleans had a bye the following week.

If Carr can’t play this week, Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback.

In five games this season, Winston has completed 53.2 percent of his passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.

Carr has thrown for 2,761 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 games for New Orleans (5-7).

The Saints listed 15 players on their Wednesday injury report, including seven who sat out the session. Reserve quarterback Taysom Hill (foot, left hand) was among those who sat out.

The others were running back Kendre Miller (ankle), receiver Rashid Shaheed (thigh), and defensive ends Isaiah Foskey (quadriceps) and Cameron Jordan (ankle). Defensive tackle Malcolm Roach (knee) and safety Marcus Maye (shoulder) were placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
