Star defenseman Cale Makar is doubtful to play Tuesday night when the Colorado Avalanche host the Anaheim Ducks.

Makar suffered a lower-body injury late in regulation during Colorado’s shootout loss to the Ducks on Saturday. He then missed his first game of the season Sunday when the Avalanche finished their 0-1-2 road trip with a 4-1 loss at the Los Angeles Kings.

The 25-year-old was limited in practice Tuesday morning in Denver.

Makar leads Colorado in assists (27) and points (34). He won both the Norris Trophy for the league’s best defenseman and the Conn Smythe Trophy as postseason MVP in 2021-22, when the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup.

The Avalanche ruled out forward Andrew Cogliano (lower-body injury), while fellow forward Valeri Nichushkin missed the morning skate with an illness but was expected to play against Anaheim.
