NBA: Jalen Brunson’s 22 points help Knicks defeat Raptors

Jalen Brunson scored 22 points and the visiting New York Knicks defeated the Toronto Raptors 119-106 on Friday night.

Julius Randle added 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Knicks, who took over the game in the third quarter.

Donte DiVincenzo scored 21 points off the bench on seven 3-pointers for New York. Josh Hart scored 15 of his 17 points in the third quarter, while RJ Barrett added 15 points and Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 10 points.

Scottie Barnes had 29 points for the Raptors and Pascal Siakam scored 21 points. Jakob Poeltl had 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Toronto. Dennis Schroder had 10 points and nine assists while OG Anunoby had nine points.

The Knicks took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter. Toronto came back to cut the margin to nine with 7:59 remaining in the fourth.

Quickley’s 3-pointer gave New York a 15-point lead with 6:37 to play.

The Knicks led 34-26 after the first quarter and opened a 10-point lead at the start of the second quarter. Chris Boucher’s hook shot cut the lead to one with 5:58 to play in the first half. Siakam’s dunk tied the score at 49 with 3:13 to play. The score was tied at 57 at halftime.

New York shot 45.1 percent (23-for-51) from the field in the first half with Brunson scoring 14 points.

Toronto shot 44.9 percent (22-for-49) with Barnes and Siakam each scoring 15. Barnes made his first seven shots and finished the half 7-for-8 from the field.

New York scored the first four points of the third quarter. Brunson’s four-point play bumped the lead to eight with 9:07 left in the third. The lead reached 10 on Randle’s running dunk with 5:50 remaining. Toronto pulled to within three on Precious Achiuwa’s dunk with 2:51 left. Hart answered with 10 straight points for New York. The Knicks led 90-77 after three quarters.
