The New York Yankees hired James Rowson on Monday to replace Sean Casey as their hitting coach.
Rowson, 47, spent last season as the Detroit Tigers’ assistant hitting coach.
He has also been the bench coach for the Miami Marlins (2020-22) and a hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins (2017-19) and Chicago Cubs (2012-13) in addition to a previous stint with the Yankees.
Rowson spent nine years in the Yankees organization (2006-11, 2014-16), including seven seasons as the club’s minor league hitting coordinator.
The Yankees (82-80) missed the playoffs in 2023 after finishing 29th in team batting average (.227), 25th in runs scored (673) and ninth in home runs (219).
