St. Louis City’s Roman Burki was named the 2023 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Thursday.

Burki, 32, recorded 17 wins, eight clean sheets and 123 saves during his first season in the league.

His efforts helped St. Louis City (17-12-5, 56 points) finish atop the Western Conference in their debut campaign.

The Swiss international and former Borussia Dortmund star is the first player to win the award for an expansion club since Zach Thornton of the Chicago Fire in 1998.

Burki received an aggregate 67.5 percent of the votes from MLS players, club technical staff and media. Finalists Roman Celentano of FC Cincinnati and Pedro Gallese of Orlando City SC tied for second at 4.8 percent.
