New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza interviewed with the New York Mets on Tuesday for a second time concerning their managerial opening, SNY reported.

Tuesday’s interview was in person, per the report. The New York Post reported Mendoza had a first interview last week.

New York is looking for a replacement for Buck Showalter, who was fired on Oct. 1 after the high-spending team limped to a 75-87 record this season.

Mendoza, 48, who has coached in the Yankees’ organization since 2009, also is in the mix for the opening in Cleveland to replace the retired Terry Francona. He also was a candidate for the San Francisco Giants’ managerial opening before they hired Bob Melvin.

Craig Counsell is viewed as the favorite to land the Mets’ gig. It would reunite him with Mets new president of baseball operations David Stearns, whom he managed under in Milwaukee from 2016-22.

However, Counsell has not had a formal interview with the Mets as of Tuesday, per the SNY report. Counsell has interviewed with the Guardians, according to SNY. It’s also a strong possibility that Counsell returns to the Brewers, who have indicated they’d like to re-sign him.

Stearns, 38, officially was introduced to his new post on Oct. 2.

Mendoza appeared in 28 major league games as a player, including 15 with the Mets in 1997. He collected four hits in the big leagues.

Showalter, 67, posted a 176-148 record in his two seasons with the Mets.
