West Virginia guard Kerr Kriisa has been suspended for nine games for receiving impermissible benefits while enrolled at Arizona.

“In late August 2023, West Virginia University learned of a potential eligibility concern for men’s basketball transfer student-athlete Kerr Kriisa, who admitted to receiving impermissible benefits while enrolled at the University of Arizona,” West Virginia said in a statement. “West Virginia worked cooperatively with the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Staff to reach an appropriate resolution.

“As a result of his actions, Kriisa will miss nine (9) 2023-2024 regular season games as part of his eligibility reinstatement. Kriisa will be able to continue to practice and travel with the team during his suspension from competition. He accepts responsibility for his actions at Arizona and looks forward to joining his Mountaineer teammates on the floor.”

It was not announced what benefits Kriisa admitted to receiving.

Kriisa, 22, returned to West Virginia after initially re-entering the transfer portal following Bob Huggins’ resignation. He opted to return to the school, however.

The Estonia native led the Pac-12 with 180 assists for the Wildcats last season. He also averaged 9.9 points, 5.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 35 games (34 starts) in 2022-23.

Kriisa posted three-year averages of 9.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds and made 177 3-pointers in 76 games (70 starts) with Arizona.
