Memphis freshman guard Mikey Williams is facing three new felony charges connected to a shooting at his Jamul, Calif., home in April.

During a court proceeding via teleconference Tuesday, Williams was ordered to appear in court in person on Friday at the Superior Court of California in El Cajon to be arraigned.

According to police, Williams allegedly fired a gun at a carload of people who had just left his residence.

He was arrested on five charges of assault with a weapon and one count of firing into an occupied vehicle. The three new charges were added Tuesday as a result of Oct. 10 testimony alleging that Williams made threats before firing a weapon, and that there were six individuals in the car, including an Uber driver, as opposed to five.

Williams could be given up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all nine charges.

Williams has been free on bond since his April 13 arrest and is attending online classes at Memphis.

The school said last month that Williams won’t be eligible to rejoin the team until his legal process is complete. He is listed on Memphis’ basketball roster online but does not have access to team facilities.

Williams was viewed as a top-50 recruit coming out of San Ysidro High School in San Diego.

Coach Penny Hardaway’s Memphis squad opens the season Nov. 6 against Jackson State.
