Calgary Flames forward prospect Topi Ronni is under investigation in his native Finland for a rape allegation from two years ago.

Ronni, 19, was a minor at the time of the alleged incident. Reports said charges were filed in July of this year.

Other details about the allegation are not yet known.

Calgary selected Ronni in the second round (No. 59 overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. Ronni, who is not yet under contract with the Flames, withdrew from team activities with Tappara Tampere, his team in Finland’s top hockey league.

“We became aware of a potential legal issue involving Topi Ronni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL Draft,” the Flames said in a statement Thursday. “We take this matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course.”
