The Atlanta Falcons released fourth-year safety Jaylinn Hawkins on Wednesday and signed safety Micah Abernathy to replace him on the active roster.

Abernathy, 26, who has appeared in just three career NFL games, was on Atlanta’s practice squad.

Hawkins, 26, had three tackles in six games (no starts) this season. The 2020 fourth-round pick has 124 tackles and four interceptions in 48 games (22 starts) for the Falcons. He started 16 games in 2022 but played just 8 percent of defensive snaps this season, becoming more of a special teams player (81 percent of snaps there).

Also Wednesday, the Falcons signed running back Jacob Saylors and safety Arnold Tarpley III to the 16-man practice squad.
