Nolan Jones homered among his two hits, Brendan Rodgers had three hits and the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 in the first game of a split doubleheader on Tuesday in Denver.

Chase Anderson (1-6) tossed five shutout innings and Tyler Kinley got the final three outs for his fifth save of the season for Colorado (57-99), which snapped a seven-game skid.

Jason Heyward had three hits for Los Angeles. The Dodgers (96-60) failed to gain ground on Atlanta for the best record in the National League.

The Rockies jumped on Caleb Ferguson, who served as the opener on a bullpen day for Los Angeles. Ezequiel Tovar led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Jones. Kris Bryant followed with a double to left to drive in Tovar and put runners on second and third.

Jones came home on a groundout by Rodgers and Elehuris Montero delivered a two-out RBI single to make it 3-0.

That was all for Ferguson (7-4), who allowed three runs on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning. Ryan Pepiot pitched the next six innings and gave up one run.

The Dodgers missed opportunities to get on the board, with the first chance coming in the fifth. After Austin Barnes walked and Mookie Betts singled to put runners on first and second with two outs, Freddie Freeman hit a sharp single to left center.

Barnes initially held up at third, but Betts was caught in a rundown around second and Barnes was thrown out at home trying to score.

Los Angeles had runners on second and third with one out in the sixth after J.D. Martinez singled and Heyward doubled, but Martinez was thrown out at home trying to score on a grounder to third.

The Dodgers did score in the inning when Colorado catcher Austin Wynns had a passed ball on a third strike and Heyward scored to make it 3-1.

Jones restored the three-run lead in the seventh with his 19th homer of the season, a solo shot.
