Minnesota United and defender Kemar Lawrence mutually decided to terminate the MLS veteran’s contract on Thursday.

Lawrence, 30, had played 14 matches (starting 13) in 2023, his second season with the Loons.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota was frustrated that Lawrence joined the Jamaican national team to compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup while he was away from the club, nursing a hamstring injury and visiting his ailing mother on “compassionate leave.”

In 184 MLS matches (172 starts) with the New York Red Bulls (2015-19), Toronto FC (2021) and Minnesota, Lawrence has scored seven goals and added 12 assists.
