WNBA: Aces earn fifth straight win, 101-88 over Fever

A’ja Wilson recorded 28 points and 10 rebounds and Kelsey Plum scored 26 to lead the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-88 victory over the visiting Indiana Fever on Saturday night.

Candace Parker had 15 points as WNBA-best Las Vegas (12-1) won its fifth consecutive game. Chelsea Gray had 13 points and 12 assists and Jackie Young scored 10 for the Aces, who topped 100 points for the second time this season and have scored at least 90 in 11 of their 13 games.

NaLyssa Smith registered 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Fever (5-8), who are 1-1 on a four-game road trip. Aliyah Boston had 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals, Lexie Hull scored 15 points and Kristy Wallace added 13 off the bench.

The two teams play again Monday night in Las Vegas.

The Aces made 53.1 percent of their field-goal attempts, including 11 of 23 from 3-point range.

Indiana connected on 50 percent of its shots and made 6 of 16 from behind the arc.

The Fever were within 85-74 after Smith’s basket with 7:06 left in the contest.

But Alysha Clark’s hoop and Wilson’s three-point play gave the Aces a 16-point advantage with 6:15 to play.

Indiana later received baskets by Wallace and Hull to creep within 97-86 with 2:02 remaining. However, Wilson and Gray each made two free throws as Las Vegas closed it out.

Parker drained a 3-pointer and Plum converted a three-point play in the first minute of the third quarter as Las Vegas opened up a 63-43 lead.

The lead was again 20 three-plus minutes later before the Fever rattled off nine straight points and pulled within 70-59 on Hull’s driving hoop.

Indiana trailed 73-63 after two free throws by Smith with 2:41 left before Plum’s basket and Parker’s trey pushed the lead back to 15. Las Vegas led 78-64 entering the final stanza.

Wilson scored 18 first-half points as Las Vegas held a 57-43 halftime advantage. Boston scored 14 in the half for Indiana.
