New York City FC defender Thiago Martins will be sidelined for approximately two months after undergoing left knee surgery, the team announced Tuesday.

The club said Martins underwent an arthroscopic procedure and should resume training in six to eight weeks.

Martins, 28, is slated to begin rehabbing the knee immediately.

The Brazilian has one assist in 14 matches this season, his second with NYCFC. Last season, he had two assists in 26 matches (25 starts).

Martins played professionally in Brazil and Japan before joining NYCFC.
