Leonardo Campana scored twice in the first half as visiting Inter Miami defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 to break a six-game losing streak.

Campana had goals in the 7th and 42nd minutes, sandwiching a score in the 10th minute by Cucho Hernandez in his return from missing six games with a knee injury.

Drake Callender made seven saves for Miami (3-6-0, 9 points).

The Crew (4-4-2, 14 points) lost for the first time at home this season after three wins and a tie. They also had a 10-game (6-0-4) home unbeaten streak dating to the end of last season.

Miami made quick work of two dubious marks with the opening goal. Inter, by scoring for the first time in four games, avoided any chance of setting an MLS record with four straight 1-0 losses as well as not tying Montreal’s league record of not scoring in the first five road matches in a season.

Campana was in his third match back from an injury that cost him the first six matches.

His first goal of the season came off a flicked header by rookie Benjamin Cremaschi in his first MLS start. Campana took the pass in stride to score on Patrick Schulte from the right side of the box.

The Crew responded shortly after with Lucas Zelarayan finding an unmarked Hernandez, who took two touches then ripped a shot from the left corner of the box to the far corner for his first goal of the season.

Campana made it 2-1with a header at the right post from a corner kick by Jean Mota.

The Crew suffered another blow to its backline when Australian World Cup defender Milos Degenek left in the 13th minute with a leg injury. Defender Will Sands sustained a season-ending knee injury during the previous game against Charlotte FC.

Degenek’s replacement, Philip Quinton, was beaten to the ball by Campana on his second goal.
