The NC State women’s basketball team lost another player as guard Diamond Johnson entered the transfer portal Monday.

Johnson is the third player this spring to leave the Wolfpack. Center Camille Hobby is headed to the Illinois Fighting Illini and forward Jakia Brown-Turner is transferring to the Maryland Terrapins.

Philadelphia native Johnson averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists and finished the season as the Wolfpack’s leading scorer with 12.3 points per game despite being limited to 22 games with an ankle injury. The injury forced her to miss the ACC and NCAA tournaments.

In a tweet Monday announcing her decision, Johnson thanked her friends, family, the teammates and coaching staff at NC State and the fans.

“Due to some unfortunate situations and after weeks of prayer and talks with my family, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal and find out where my journey takes me next,” Johnson tweeted.

Johnson played her first season with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and spent the past two seasons at NC State. She earned the ACC’s Sixth Player of the Year award in 2022.

Because of the COVID-19 waiver from 2020-21, Johnson has two years of eligibility left. She is not currently listed in the portal as a graduate transfer, making her immediately eligible for next season, though she may need a waiver from the NCAA since she’s already transferred once.
