Boston defenseman Charlie McAvoy was ruled out for the remainder of the Bruins’ Thursday game against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs due to an upper-body injury.

McAvoy accidentally collided with teammate Patrice Bergeron and hit the boards during the second period. He did not take another shift and finished the night with two penalty minutes and two blocked shots over 11:58 of ice time.

Boston trailed Toronto 1-0 after two periods.

McAvoy, 25, entered the game tied for second on the Bruins in assists (43) and seventh in points (50). Before the 2021-22 season, McAvoy signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension to remain with Boston, which drafted him 14th overall in 2016.
