Daniel Gazdag converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-0 win over Mexico’s Atlas on Tuesday at Chester, Pa., in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series.

The second leg of the total-goal series will be played April 12 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The Union’s Julian Carranza was fouled by Atlas goalie Camilo Vargas in the penalty area in the 86th minute. Gazdag subsequently sent his spot kick low to his right, and the ball snuck just under Vargas and into the net.

The only two other Major League Soccer teams remaining in the CONCACAF Champions League will face one another on Wednesday. Los Angeles FC will visit the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first leg of their quarterfinal series.
