New England’s Carles Gil and the New York City Football Club’s Talles Magno scored 10 minutes apart in the second half as their teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in Foxborough, Mass.

Gil’s goal continued a strong start to the season by New England (4-1-1, 13 points), while Magno’s goal enabled NYCFC (2-2-2, eight points) to salvage a point on the road.

New England took a 1-0 lead when Bobby Wood slid a pass to the streaking Gil, who beat his defender before driving a low shot past goalie Luis Barraza in the 70th minute.

NYCFC equalized when Magno headed Gabriel Pereira’s corner kick past Djordje Petrovic.

NYCFC had possession for 58.1 percent of the match, but put just three of their 14 shots on target. They also completed 86.5 percent of their 528 passes.

New England put just three of its 12 shots on target while completing 81.9 percent of its 376 passes.

NYCFC almost broke through in the 61st minute, when the Revolution’s Dylan Borrero had a crossing pass that deflected off NYCFC defender Mitja Ilenic’s head and into the back of the goal. But the score was overturned after VAR determined the play was offside.

NYCFC also had a great chance to take the lead in the 52nd minute, but Gil’s free kick from outside the penalty box hit the post and caromed out of bounds.

Neither team mustered much of an attack in the first half.

NYCFC maintained possession for 53.8 percent of the opening 45 minutes, but none of their five shots were on target. They completed 86.8 percent of their 273 passes.

New England also had five first-half shots, but just one was on target in the first half. The Revs completed 83.5 percent of their 231 passes.
