Nick Schmaltz and Nick Bjugstad scored during a shootout as the Arizona Coyotes snapped a nine-game losing streak by defeating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Tuesday night in Tempe, Ariz.

Bjugstad also had a goal and an assist during regulation. Travis Boyd and Dylan Guenther scored third-period goals after the Red Wings took a 3-1 lead. Lawson Crouse assisted on all of the goals for Arizona, while Connor Ingram made 37 saves.

Dylan Larkin, Pius Suter and David Perron scored for Detroit. Magnus Hellberg stopped 20 shots.

Detroit had a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal during the first period, which ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams had a power play opportunity late in the period.

The Red Wings continued to pepper the Coyotes goaltender early in the second period but couldn’t break through until Bjugstad was penalized for holding Lucas Raymond.

Just four seconds into the power play, Moritz Seider took a shot from near that blue line that Larkin tipped past Ingram for his team-high 15th goal of the season at 8:34. Tyler Bertuzzi was credited with the second assist.

The Coyotes tied it when Bjugstad scored his 11th goal. He banged in a rebound of a Jakob Chychrun shot. Crouse had the other assist at 11:09 of the period.

Detroit took the lead at 4:51 of the third. Robby Fabbri controlled the puck along the boards and tapped it into the Coyotes zone despite getting checked. Suter picked up the loose puck and beat Ingram on the stick side for his sixth goal.

Perron scored his 14th goal just over a minute later to make it 3-1. Michael Rasmussen set him up in front of the crease with Andrew Copp collecting the second assist.

Boyd’s fifth goal, a shot from the slot, came less than a minute later to pull Arizona within 3-2. Crouse and Troy Stecher had the assists.

At 7:53, Guenter tied it by knocking in a rebound of a Crouse shot. Bjugstad had the second assist.
