Jason Robertson scored in the first period and then collected the lone goal in the shootout Tuesday night for the Dallas Stars, who edged the host New York Islanders 2-1.

Robertson scored his 29th goal of the season early in the first before opening the shootout with a shot over the glove of Ilya Sorokin.

Goalie Jake Oettinger made 27 saves in regulation and overtime before turning back all three Islanders attempts in the shootout as the Stars won their second straight and improved to 6-2-0 in their last eight games.

Anders Lee scored in the first for the Islanders, who have lost three straight (0-2-1) for the third time this season. Sorokin recorded 25 saves.

The Stars took another early lead just 3:42 after the opening faceoff. Tyler Seguin briefly lost control of the puck at the Islanders’ blue line, but with Mathew Barzal coming in behind him and Parker Wotherspoon in front, Seguin managed to dive and shovel the puck to Joe Pavelski. The Dallas center then passed beyond a sliding Ryan Pulock to Robertson, who held the puck for a moment before firing a shot beyond Sorokin’s stick.

A tripping penalty on Radek Faksa generated the power play that yielded Lee’s goal almost exactly 10 minutes later. Lee was battling with Stars defenseman Esa Lindell for position in front of Oettinger before Noah Dobson passed to Brock Nelson. Oettinger then darted to try and cover Nelson, whose shot glanced off the stick off Lee and trickled across the goal line before Lee could nudge it over with 6:21 left.

The Islanders were scoreless on a pair of power plays in the second before briefly appearing to take the lead with 36.8 seconds left. Oettinger allowed the puck to get behind him as he stood behind the net and Casey Cizikas scored into the empty net, but the goal was negated because Anthony Beauvillier was offside.

The Islanders outshot the Stars 10-9 in the third and had the bulk of serious scoring chances. Oettinger stopped Jean-Gabriel Pageau at point-blank range with 16:43 left and again with 2:17 left before denying Scott Mayfield and Zach Parise near the net in the final 10 seconds.
