Philadelphia Union midfielder Daniel Gazdag agreed to terms on a contract extension that runs through the 2025 season with an option for 2026.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the Union on Wednesday for Gazdag, who will occupy a designated player spot with the club. Gazdag had a base salary of $550,000 last season.
“Daniel became one of the top two-way players in Major League Soccer as well as a league MVP candidate last season,” Philadelphia Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said. “His 22 goals and 10 assists in the regular season show his value to our attack, and his defensive work rate and intelligence were key in helping us build a top defensive unit. He’s a great fit for our aggressive style of play and we are excited to reward him with a designated player contract that keeps him in Philadelphia for the coming years.”
Gazdag, 26, earned his first MLS Best XI selection in 2022 after setting the record for most goals scored by a Union player in a single MLS regular season. His total of 22 fell one short of 2022 MLS Golden Boot winner Hany Mukhtar of Nashville SC.
Gazdag, a Hungarian, has 26 goals and 15 assists in 57 career matches (51 starts) with the Union.
